1. Scope
This Privacy Policy applies to researchwize.com, the ResearchWize web workspace, supported ResearchWize browser extensions, and related support or service communications (together, the "Services"). It does not control the privacy practices of websites or services that you visit through external links.
2. Information we handle
Account and profile information
- Email address, account identifiers, authentication information, and settings.
- Subscription status, plan, currency, renewal details, and payment-provider customer or subscription identifiers. ResearchWize does not store full payment-card numbers.
Assignment, project, and source content
- Prompts, rubrics, course context, notes, working claims, outlines, projects, and other text you submit.
- Webpages, URLs, PDFs, documents, extracted text, and source details you choose to analyse or save.
- AI-assisted analyses and other outputs created from the material you provide.
The browser extension keeps its Browser Library and preferences in storage for the current browser profile. It does not silently sync that local library into the ResearchWize website. When you choose an AI analysis feature, the source text or selected PDF content needed for that request is sent to the ResearchWize service to generate the result.
Usage and technical information
- Feature events, allowance usage, page or screen activity, session and device identifiers, referral information, browser or product version, timestamps, and diagnostic events.
- Network and security information such as IP address, request headers, and error or abuse signals when received by the service or its infrastructure providers.
- Cookies, local storage, or similar browser storage used for sessions, preferences, attribution, and product operation.
Communications
We handle the information in support requests, feedback, survey responses, and email interactions you send to us.
3. How we use information
- Provide account access, source analysis, evidence planning, project storage, exports, and other requested features.
- Send submitted content to an AI API when a feature requires AI processing and return the result to you.
- Measure plan allowances, maintain subscriptions, process payments, and prevent duplicate or unauthorized access.
- Operate, troubleshoot, secure, and improve the Services.
- Respond to support, privacy, and account requests.
- Send service notices and, where permitted, product or educational messages. You can opt out of non-essential marketing email.
- Comply with legal, accounting, tax, fraud-prevention, and security obligations.
We do not sell personal information.
4. Providers and disclosure
ResearchWize uses service providers to run specific parts of the Services. Depending on the feature, information may be processed by:
- AI API providers, including OpenAI, to process content for requested AI-assisted features.
- Payment providers, including Stripe, for checkout, subscription management, billing, fraud prevention, and tax-related functions.
- Hosting, content-delivery, and security providers used to operate the website, APIs, databases, and network edge.
- Email and support providers used to deliver account, service, or requested communications.
- Analytics and attribution services used to understand product use and campaign performance.
ResearchWize’s use and transfer of information received from Google APIs adheres to the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.
Providers receive information for their assigned service function and process it under their own terms and privacy commitments. We may also disclose information when reasonably necessary to comply with law, protect users or the Services, investigate abuse, enforce agreements, or complete a corporate transaction such as a financing, merger, acquisition, or asset sale.
5. Retention and security
Retention depends on the type of information and why it is needed. Saved projects and account records may remain while your account is active or until you delete available content or request deletion. Usage, security, billing, and legal records may be kept longer where reasonably needed for service integrity, dispute handling, accounting, fraud prevention, or legal obligations. Residual copies may remain for a limited period in backups.
We use reasonable technical and organizational safeguards, including encrypted network connections and access controls. No online service can guarantee absolute security. Use a unique password and contact us promptly if you believe your account has been compromised.
6. Your choices and rights
- Choose which prompts, sources, and files you submit. Do not submit content you are not permitted to process.
- Delete available saved projects or content through product controls.
- Use email unsubscribe controls for non-essential marketing messages.
- Manage cookies or local storage through browser controls, recognizing that blocking required storage can affect sign-in and product functions.
- Contact us to request access, correction, or deletion where applicable under laws such as PIPEDA, GDPR, or state privacy laws.
We may need to verify your identity before completing a request. Some information may be retained when an exception or legal obligation applies.
7. International processing
ResearchWize and its providers may process information in Canada, the United States, and other countries where service infrastructure or personnel operate. Privacy protections and government-access rules can differ from those in your home jurisdiction.
8. Children's privacy
ResearchWize is designed and marketed primarily for post-secondary students and other users aged 18 or older. The Services are not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 provided personal information, contact us so we can review and address the request.
9. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as the Services, providers, or legal requirements change. The effective date at the top of the page shows the latest revision. Material changes may also be communicated through the Services or by email when appropriate.
